ABSTRACT
The hepatoprotective activity of a poly-herbal formulation containing methanol extract of diferrent parts of the plants, viz., Eclipta alba (whole plant), Picrorrhiza kurroa(dried rhizome), Tribulus terristris (whole plant),Nigella sativa(seeds), Piper longam(dried spikes),terminelia chebula(immature fruits) was evaluated and tablets were prepared and evaluated for seram marker enzyme and bio-chemical parameters like SGOT,SGPT,ALP,Total proteins, Bilirubin,
and cholesterol in ccl4 induced hepatic damage in rats , values are expressed as mean SEM, **=P<0.1when compare with toxic, ##=P<0.01, when compare with control, methanolic extract treated group showed significant decrease (p<0.01) serum levels of AST, ALT, ALP, TB and significant increase (p<0.01) serum level of TP, when compared with negative control. So same extract prepared poly herbal formulations Whereas F1-200, F2-400 treated group showed regenerating hepatocytes and showed no evidence of inflammatory infiltrate. The overall structure of rat liver was close to normal. The results presented in evaluation and accelerated studies were conducted upto 6 months, the above table indicates that the F1, F2 formulations of prepared herbal tablets was physical characters and chemically stable and results within the limits. The result indicate that the prepared formulation can be used for liver disorders especially hepatitis, cirrhosis, jaundice, and fatty liver based on the observations from the studied hepatic parameters.
