Abstract
ANTHELMINTIC (KRIMIGHNA) DRUGS OF BHAVPRAKASH NIGHANTU: A LITERARY SURVEY

ABSTRACT

Many treatment modalities have been explained in Brihatrayi (Charak, Sushruta, Vagbhata) and Laghutrayi (Sharangdhara, Bhavprakash and Madhav Nidan). Bhavprakash mentions numerous drugs acting on krimi. The present study is designed to screen the drugs with Krimihara, Krimighna, Krimigadapaha, Koshta Krimiharet, Jantujit, Krimihanti, Kriminjit, Kriminash etc. properties. Out of 426 drugs 129 were described for the treatment of Krimi (helminthes) throughout the text which includes herbal, mineral and animal origin drugs. Ceiling importance was given to Guduchyadi Varga with 36 drugs (27.91%), very next to that Haritakyadi Varga with 27 drugs (20.93%), succeeding to this Vatadi Varga with 14 drugs (10.85%) were explained. Least importance was given to food products including Dugdha varga, Takra varga, Ghrita varga, each respectively 1 drug (0.77%) for treating Krimi. Mutra varga have also 1 drug (0.77%) for curing Krimi. No drugs are elucidating from Mamsa Varga, Krutanna Varga, Vari Varga, Dadhi Varga, Navaneet Varga & Ikshu Varga.
