ABSTRACT
One of the most challenging and interesting drug delivery is Ophthalmic drug delivery for the pharmaceutical scientist. Glaucoma, dry eye syndrome, keratitis, endopthalmitis, trachoma, conjunctivitis are various problems from which eye suffer. Within the eye, an adequate amount of active ingredients must be delivered and maintained at the site of action to achieve effective ocular therapy. Conventional therapy exhibits the poor bioavailability and therapeutic response due to rapid precorneal elimination of the drug. There are considerable efforts directed towards newer drug system for ocular administration to overcome the drawbacks of conventional therapy. The use of in situ gel overcomes the problems by forming sol-gel transition when drop instilled in the eye and transition form in cul-de-sac. The review involve in-situ gel system which includes thermally triggered system, pH triggered system and ion cross linking system. The review involves detailed method of preparation and evaluation parameters of pH triggered system.
Keywords: Ophthalmic drug delivery, in-situ gel, thermally triggered system, pH triggered system, ion cross linking system.
