ABSTRACT
Anemia is a common, multifactorial condition which cuts across all the sections of the population and is associated with a variety of adverse outcomes, including mortality. Globally prevalence of anemia is 71.25% in females and 40.2% in males, making it a global public health problem. Considerable changes in growth pattern, lifestyle, dietary habits and behaviour are likely to influence the gender differences in the incidence of anemia. Anemia is an indicator of both poor nutrition and poor health. The most dramatic health effects of anemia, i.e., increased risk of maternal and child mortality due to severe anaemia, have been well documented. Haemoglobin concentration is the most reliable indicator of anemia at the population level. Correcting anaemia often requires an integrated approach due to multifactorial nature of this disease. In this research role of social and preventive aspect of Ayurveda like Dincharya, Rhitucharya, Aharvidhi, Achar Rasayan has been studied and found effective to combat the disease and address the regression of contributing factor as well. The outcome of this study revealed a new dimension of integrated approach of above measures which can reduce the prevalence of global anemia.
