RELATIONSHIP OF ATHLETIC PERFORMANCE WITH BALANCE AND CORE MUSCLE STRENGTH IN ROLLER SPEED SKATERS.

ABSTRACT

Background: The relationship between balance ability and sports injury risk has been established in many sports. Though core training has become a norm in many athletic training programs, but the relationship between balance ability, core stability and athletic performance is less clear and yet to be quantified. Methods: It was a correlational observational design in which 30 healthy young roller speed skaters (mean age males = 20.3 ± 2.9 years and females = 18.5 ± 0.9 years) from various skating clubs of Nagpur were selected. Study Factors: Measurement of their balance by Y-Balance test in %, core muscle strength by Double Leg Lowering test in degrees and athletic performance by 300m Timed Trial in seconds were recorded. Results: There was statistically significant moderate correlation of Y-Balance test (left and right side) with athletic performance (300m Timed Trial) was found (p Value <0.001). Conclusion: There exist a relationship of balance and athletic performance in roller speed skating.
