ABSTRACT
Herbal drugs are more popular among rural and urban community of Indian indigenous medicinal system (Ayurvedic, Sidha etc). Trichosanthes tricaspidata which is commonly known as Indrayan is a very little-exploited native plant of India has immense medicinal potential. The aim of this study was to evaluate the pharmacological aspect of the plant for its anti-oxidant, anthelmintic and anti-bacterial activity. The result suggested that this plant has significant value for anthelmintic activity with respect to standard drug Albendazole and dose dependent anti-oxidant activity with respect to standard drug ascorbic acid. However, it does not possess significant activity against the microorganism like S. aureus and E. coli at the concentration of 2- 8 mg/ ml when compared with standard Ciprofloxacin. Preliminary phytochemical investigation for this plant was also carried out during study but the phytochemical responsible for these pharmacological actions are not yet done. So further, investigation is required for evaluation and isolation of the chemical constituent which is responsible for these pharmacological actions.
