ABSTRACT
Oxygen is very important for all living organisms. It is the life-giving, life-sustaining element. Approximately 90% of the body's energy is created by oxygen. Dissolved oxygen is necessary to many aquatic animals, bacteria and plants. These organisms use oxygen in respiration, similar to organisms on land. The dissolved oxygen affects the nutrients availability resulting change in the productivity of the entire water body. The present work was done to study effect of temperature on dissolve oxygen content of Chikhloli Dam water. The monthly variation of dissolved oxygen recorded were 5.0 to 7.7 mg/L, 5.1 to 7.3mg/L, 4.9to 7.3 mg/L and 4.8 to 7.3 mg/L at the spots S1, S2, S3, and S4 respectively. Water temperature is one of the most important characteristics of an aquatic system. Temperature is affecting dissolved oxygen levels. Water temperature fluctuates between day and night (diurnal temperature changes) and over longer time periods (e.g., seasonally). The oxygen content of water decreases with rise in temperature. The monthly variation of water temperature recorded were 24 to 37°C, 29.7to 38°C, 25.4 to 35.7°C and 26.7 to 36.8°Con the spots S1, S2, S3, and S4 respectively. The present investigation were found to be well within the permissible limits prescribed by WHO and may be suitable for the growth of fishes. The study carried out of one year during the June 2014 to May 2015.
