ABSTRACT

The free radicals leads to oxidative stress and are produced by virus, bacteria and parasite which may be present in the food, air and water. Oxidative stress results in the production of chronic diseases and finally organ damages. To remove this stress, intake of sufficient amount of antioxidants is needed. The present study is a comparative analysis of antioxidant potential of the two ā€œPā€ of Apitherapy i.e. Pollen and Propolis. The whole in vivo experiment was divided into eight groups. Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium was given to BALB/c mice to induce the oxidative stress. And followed by treatment with selected doses of bee pollen and propolis in different groups. Various biochemical parameters were studied and compared like lipid peroxidation, superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione transferase etc. By examining the results carefully the effect of bee pollen as an antioxidant is quite strong as compared to that of propolis. The possible reason for that could be presence of more and strong metabolites in case of bee pollen.

Keywords: Bee products, pollen, propolis, Salmonella, Oxidative stress, toxicity.
