LIQUID CHROMATOGRAPHY-MASS SPECTROSCOPY(LC-MS)

ABSTRACT

Liquid chromatography is a technique of physical parting in which the components of a liquid mixture are distributed between two immiscible phases, i.e., stationary and mobile. Mass spectrometry (MS) is an analytical method that measures the mass-to-charge ratio (m/z) of charged particles (ions). Liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC- MS) is an analytical chemistry technique that combines the physical separation abilities of liquid chromatography (or HPLC) with the mass analysis abilities of mass spectrometry (MS). In adding to the liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry devices, an LC-MS system contains an interface that transfers the separated components from the LC column into the MS ion source.
