Aim: This study was conducted to analyze and introspect the presentation of this disease in Burdwan district, West Bengal. Methodology: This record-based descriptive retrospective study was undertaken in Burdwan district, West Bengal, India from 2006 to 2012. The blood samples of the patients presenting with fever as chief complaint, (both attending Burdwan Medical College and Hospital and other centres of the district) were examined by microscopy for malaria parasites. The data were collected from the online Government database and analyzed using Microsoft excel. Results: Out of a total of 1782570 cases studied over seven years i.e. from 2006 to 2012, 856 cases were positive for malaria, of which, 539(62.97%) cases were positive for Plasmodium vivax and 317 (37.03%) were positive for Plasmodium falciparum. i.e. overall slide positivity rate (SPR) and slide falciparum rate (SFR)were 0.05% and 0.02% respectively.
