ABSTRACT
The field trial was done to evaluate the efficacy of poly herbal formulation Restobal liquid, a herbal immunomodulator, antistressor and rejuvinator (M/S Ayurvet Limited) in alleviating farrowing stress in sows. Twenty pregnant sows in their late phase of gestation with history of higher piglet mortality during pre-weaning stage were randomly divided into two groups- one control, T0 and one treatment
group, T1. Group T0 was unsupplemented control, no dietary treatment or antistressor product was given to sows of this group. Group T1 supplemented with Restobal Liquid at 25 ml BID (5 days before farrowing and 5 days after farrowing). Parameters viz. post farrowing complications, mean piglet weight per sow, litter size, mortality and milk yield post partum were studied. Results showed that after Restobal Liquid supplementation to farrowing sows had increased tha litter weight and size. Pre weaning mortality was less in piglets of Restobal Liquid supplemented sows. Survivability percentage at time of weaning was significantly higher in Restobal liquid supplemented sow’s piglets (89.28%) in comparison of unsupplemented sow’s piglets (68.83%). Milk Yield post partum for 2 months was recorded. The milk yield was also significantly increased in Restobal liquid supplemented sows (134.5) in comparison of unsupplemented control group sows (103.5).
