ABSTRACT
Introduction: Dengue an arthropod borne disease, endemic in subtropical and tropical regions of the world. It usually presents itself with subclinical or mild infection to full blown dengue fever (DF) to dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF). Materials and Methods: A retrospective study was performed on 225 dengue positive patients. Blood tests like complete blood picture, hemoglobin levels, ALT levels were taken for all the patients. The patients were classified as Classic Dengue, Dengue with warning and Dengue hemorrhagic fever as per WHO guidelines. Results: 51.6% of the patients were males. Most of the patients were young adults. All 100% of the patients had fever with many of them presenting chills and rigors. Raised hematocrit was observed in about 30% of the classic dengue cases and in 100% of the DHF patients. 80 % of the classic dengue patients had platelet count > 50000 while all the cases of DHF were <50000. Conclusion: Dengue can be a manageable disease which can be cured with timely recognition and intervention.
