Abstract
ELECTROPHILIC AND FREE RADICAL BROMINATION OF NOVEL [b] CARBAZOLE DERIVATIVES AND ANTIMICROBIAL EVALUATION

M. Sathiya and S. Guhanathan*

ABSTRACT

Heterocyclic compounds containing N,O & S moieties comprise of Potentially active compounds against bacteria and fungi. The synthesis of substituted and condensed indole has been attracted due to their importance in biological activity. Synthesized compounds by an improved approach using Fischer’s synthesis have been designated as 1,2,3,4-tetrahydrocyclopenta(b)indole followed by an electrophilic and free radical bromination using N-bromo succinimide. The formation of all compounds were confirmed by spectral techniques Viz, FTIR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, MASS Spectroscopy. The compounds have also been suggested for antimicrobial action.

Keywords: Heterocyclic compounds, Sulphuric acid, Phenylhydrazine, Ciprofloxacin, Amphotericin-B.
