Abstract
MICROWAVE-ASSISTED SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF 1,4- DIHYDROPYRIDINES

N. Venu Madhav, A. Srinivas Nayak* and Chinna Eswaraiah

ABSTRACT

1,4-Dihydropyridines are well known for their potential biological activity. An efficient microwave assisted synthesis of 1,4-dihydropyridines have been involved aromatic/aliphatic/ hetero aromatic aldehyde, ethyl acetoacetate and ammonium acetate. When compared to conventional, microwave assisted synthesis is easy, simple, eco-friendly and the reactions are rapid and improved yields and it tolerates variety of substituent’s. The newly synthesized 1,4-dihydropyridines have been purified and characterized by their spectral (IR, 1H NMR and Mass) data.

Keywords: Hantzsch reaction, 1,4-Dihydropyridines, Microwave assisted synthesis, Eco-friendly, Calcium channel blockers.
