ISOLATION, CHARACTERIZATION AND BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITIES OF 6-HYDROXY HEXYL ACETATE FROM ETHANOLIC RHIZOME EXTRACTS OF KAEMPFERIA GALANGA

ABSTRACT
Since times, plants are using as the medicinal sources in curing many diseases. One of the medicinal plant, Kaempferia galanga belongs to Zingiberaceae family is selected for isolation, characterization and biological activities of phytocompound. The phytochemical investigation of the ethanolic rhizome extract of Kaempferia galanga shows good pharmacological activities. The experimental data was predicted as 6-hydroxyhexyl acetate based on spectra‗s. The antioxidant activity shows IC50 for 6-Hydroxyhexyl acetate as 57.5μg/ml and IC50 for standard as 24.5μg/ml. The 6-Hydroxyhexyl acetate were shown good antifungal (10 to 11 mm) as well as antibacterial activities (11 to 12 mm) .The bacterial standard like Tetracyclin and fungal standard like Fluconazole shown zone of inhibition as 10 to 14 and 13 to 16 respectively. The protease inhibition studies for 6-Hydroxyhexyl acetate of K. galanga have shown the good activity with enzymes like chymotrypsin when compared with protease K and trypsin. Dose response of 6-Hydroxy hexyl acetate from K. galanga on MCF-7 (Breast Cancer) cell line was shown antiproliferative activity with IC50 as 165 μgm/ml. The IC50 standard (tamoxifen) was shown as 12.5 μg/ml. Hence the isolated phytocompound 6-Hydroxyhexyl acetate isolated form Kaempferia galanga was shown good antioxidant, antibacterial, protease inhibition and antiproliferation properties.
