Abstract
THE GENERAL ROLE OF PANCHKARMA AND RELATED APPROACHES IN THE MANAGEMENT OF JOINT PROBLEM; OSTEOARTHRITIS (SANDHIGATAVATA)

ABSTRACT

Osteoarthritis (Sandhigatavata) is a pathological condition in which joint pain, swelling and restriction in movement occurs due to the vitiation of Vata. Dhathukshaya, ageing, injury, sedentary life style and excessive physical burden can be considered as causes of osteoarthritis. Ayurveda the Indian medical science described various approaches for the management of diseases related to the joint such as; osteoarthritis. Detoxification techniques along with herbal therapy offers beneficial effects in disease like; osteoarthritis. The Panchkarma is one of the detoxification techniques that provide relief in joint pain and other diseases. Considering these all aspect present article summarizes role of Panchkarma in the management of joint pain and osteoarthritis.
