ABSTRACT
Plant and herbs are the richest resource of drugs of traditional system of medicine, modern medicine, neutraceutical, food supplements, folk medicines, pharmaceutical intermediates and chemical entities for synthetic drugs. The present study deals with the Evaluation of the chemical composition of five selected species of Zinziberaceae family available in Manipur (Hedychium maximum, Hedychium rubrum, Hedychium coronarium, Curcuma leucorhiza and Kaemferia rotunda). The result reveals the presence of bioactive constituents comprising alkaloids 1.82mg/100g Hedychium maximum, 1.80mg/100g of Hedychium rubrum, 4.04 mg/100g of Hedychium coronarium, 1.20mg/100g of Curcuma leucorhiza and 2.60mg/100g Kaemefria rotunda. Saponin was found to content 9.60mg/100g, 10.60mg/100g, 9.84mg/100g, 20.10mg/100g and 8.24mg/100gm on Hedychium maximum, Hedychium rubrum, Hedychium coronarium, Curcuma leucorhiza and Kaemferia rotunda. 17.99mg/100g, 10.68mg/100g,9.28mg/100g, 16.74mg/100gand 8.60mg/100g of flavonoids were found to content in Hedychium maximum, Hedychium rubrum, Hedychium coronarium, Curcuma leucorhiza and Kaemefria rotunda 3.52mg/100g, 1.20mg/100g, 4.80mg/100g, 3.40mg/100g and 2.04mg/100g of terpenoids were also found to content in Hedychium maximum, Hedychium rubrum, Hedychium coronarium, Curcuma leucorhiza and Kaemferia rotunda respectively.
