ABSTRACT

Henoch-Schonlein purpura (HSP) is the most common small vessel vasculitis of childhood. It is an IgA-mediated, self-limiting disease that involves multiple organs including skin, kidneys, and the GI tract. HSP usually occurs following upper respiratory tract infections and can occur secondary to vaccinations, medications, malignancies, and insect bites. It is characterized by a clinical trial of palpable purpura, abdominal pain, and arthritis. COVID19 is caused by the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which is a single stranded RNA virus. The clinical presentation of COVID-19 ranges from being asymptomatic to severe disease resulting in mortality. Although pulmonary manifestations are the most common, the virus can have an impact on other organ systems as well. However, data related to extra pulmonary manifestations is still rapidly emerging. We herein report a patient with Henoch-Schonlein purpura (HSP) secondary to a COVID-19 infection.

Keywords: palpable purpura, abdominal pain, and arthritis.
