ABSTRACT
Schiff base ligands and its corresponding copper, nickel and silver complexes were synthesized. Ligand (L1) 2-carboxybenzaldehyde semicarbazone has been prepared using semicarbazide and carboxybenzaldehyde; ligand (L2) 3-methyl 2-thiophene carboxaldehyde semicarbazone is prepared by semicarbazide and 3-methyl-2-thiophene carboxaldehyde .The composition of Ni(II) and Cu(II) were synthesized as complexes M(L1)X(H2O)2 Silver [Ag(I)] complex was synthesized with the ligand composition [Ag2 (L1 )2 (H2 O) 2](NO3 )2 .4H 2O and its nanoparticles (M-Nps) were also prepared using a plant extract, a green approach. The octahedral geometry for Ni(II), tetragonal geometry for Cu(II) complexes and tetrahedral structure for Ag complex was shown in spctral studies. Complexes with L2 have general composition [M(L2)2X2], where M = Ni(II) and Cu(II), X = Cl-, NO3-, CH3COO- and ½SO4 2- for both ligand M -complexes.On the basis of above spectral studies, an octahedral geometry has been assigned for Ni(II) complexes and tetragonal geometry for Cu(II) complexes except [Cu(L2)2- SO4] which possesses five coordinated trigonal bipyramidal geometry. ‘’'Furthermore, elementary analytical, IR, Mass, HNMR techniques were used to characterize the ligand and metal complexes while for Silver nanoparticles, electron microscopy studies were performed.. Also, we reported a green method for synthesis of their nanoparticles using nutmeg plant extract.
