CHANGES IN THE LACTIC ACID CONTENT IN THE MYOTOMAL MUSCLES OF CHANNA PUNCTATUS DUE TO HELMINTH INFECTION

ABSTRACT

In the post helminth infection, Lactic acid and related molecular content changes have been studied in the myotomal muscles of Channa punctatus due to the intestine infection by Genarchopsis goppo Ozaki (1925) and liver infection by Callodistomum diaphanum Odhaner (1902). The biochemical parameter that has been investigated is Lactic acid. The Lactic acid content decreased by about 30% and 48% respectively due to liver and intestine infection. The decrease in the Lactic acid content indicates that the lactate i;s rapidly converted to pyruvate for its incorporation into the TCA cycle. These changes occurred in the host due to helminth infestation.
