PHARMACOLOGICAL EVALUATION OF ANTIDIABETIC PROPERTIES OF ACHYRTHES ASPERA

ABSTRACT
Plants continue to serve as possible sources for new drugs and chemicals derived from various parts of plants. Herbal drug development involves a systematic process called reverse pharmacology, which explores and validates the medicinal plants used in Ayurveda. In order to understand diabetes it is necessary to understand the normal physiological process occurring during and after a meal. Achyranthes aspera was collected from the local market. The plant was washed in tap water followed by distilled water. It was stored at 40 °C in air tight bottles for further studies. The Extractive Values of the plant extract were evaluated for alcoholic and aqueous solutions which were 9.26% and 15.54% respectively. The loss on drying and foreign organic matter Values of the plant extract were evaluated and found to be 7.35% and 1.25% respectively. The Total Ash, Acid Insoluble Ash And Water Soluble Ash Values Values of the plant extract were evaluated and found to be 15.45%, 9.54%, 2.35 respectively. The Methanol extract of Achyranthes aspera to an extent possible helped to improve the immune status of diabetes induced mice in the present study. From the overall investigation among various extracts of Achyranthes aspera the methanol extract was found to have more phytochemicals and anti-diabetic activity.
