Abstract
A REVIEW: SOFT ROT OF GINGER (ZINGIBER OFFICINALE) CAUSED BY PYTHIUM AND ITS CONTROL & MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES

ABSTRACT

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) is an important spice crop in India. It has great importance as commercial crop. India is one of the leading producer and exporter of ginger in the world. During cultivation, harvesting and storage the crop is infected by various diseases. The economically important disease associated with ginger is soft rot of ginger rhizomes. The disease reduces the potential yields of ginger drastically. In the present review paper the causal organism, disease cycle, epidemiology, losses, symptoms, host resistance, cultural, chemical, integrated management and the biological control measures of soft rot disease of ginger have been discussed.
