SPONTANEOUS CLOSURE OF TRACHEOESOPHAGEAL FISTULA SECONDARY TO BURN DUE TO INGESTION OF A BUTTON BATTERY

ABSTRACT

We present a case of accidental ingestion of a button battery, complicated with the formation of a tracheoesophageal fistula; despite its good initial post-extraction evolution. Complications have been reported even several weeks after removal of these elements. It is important to raise awareness in the community about the danger of ingesting objects such as batteries, teach physicians about the importance of immediate detection and removal and how to do an adequate follow-up of this patients.
