STUDY OF HYPOXEMIA IN PATIENTS WITH ACUTE EXACERBATION OF COPD AT A TERTIARY CENTRE

ABSTRACT

Aim: Study of occurrence of hypoxemia in patients with acute exacerbation of COPD at a tertiary centre. Methods: This was a single centre case control cross-sectional observational study design including 50 cases and 50 controls. COPD patients more than 40 years of age, having acute exacerbation were included in the study after proper screening. CBC, haemoglobin , LFT, RFT, ABG, hsCRP, Spirometry, ECG, 2d-ECHO was performed and data was collected and recorded for analysis. Results: Among 50 patients’ pO2, 41 patients had p02 less than normal values at room air. All the controls had po2 within normal range. Conclusion: About 82% of patients with acute exacerbation of COPD presented with hypoxemia.
