RASAUSHADIS IN GERIATRICS

ABSTRACT

Metal/Mineral based herbal formulations are considered as Rasaushadhis. Geriatrics is the branch of Medicine concerned with the care and treatment to elderly. Aging is a natural phenomena. Ayurveda considered it as Svabavabala Pravrtha Vyadhi. It is the stage of Degeneration associated with Joint Problems, Impairment in General health, Dementia, Loss of Muscle & Skin Tone. Progression of Life style disorders like Hypertension and Diabetes are more in old age. In this stage anabolic activities are more. Advantages of Rasaushadhis are quick in action, efficacious in lower dose and having long shelf life of Formulation and easily palatable. Rasaushadhis like Parada, Abhraka, Makshika, Silajathu and Metals like Swarna are effectively used in many Geriatrics problems. Rasaushadhis improves Agni and help to boosts the Ojas in such a way it improves the quality of life. Rasashastra mentioned many formulations for Geriatrics. In the present paper specific Rasaushadhis used in Geriatrics has been discussed.
