IMMUNE THROMBOCYTOPENIA (ITP): A REVIEW ON PATHOGENESIS AND TREATMENT ADVANCEMENTS

ABSTRACT

Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is an immune-mediated bleeding disorder characterized by the destruction of platelets and megakaryocytes in the spleen and bone marrow respectively, by pathogenic autoantibodies and/or autoreactive T cells. This review discusses the pathophysiology of ITP and the different treatment modalities which are in current use.
