ABSTRACT
The aim of this work is Evaluation Of Standardization Parameters For Berberine In Ayurvedic Formulation. Berberine (Berberidaceae) is a very common substitute to “ Daruharida” which is used in the Ayurvedic system of medicine. The crude drug was successively extracted by soxhlet assembly using methanol solvent Preliminary evaluation, microscopical evaluation, Phytochemical investigation and Determination of physical characteristic of powder. Phytochemical screening of Berberine showed the presence of Alkaloids, Glycoside, Carbohydratyes, Proteins, Flavonoids and Tannins in the crude drug.Quantitative estimation by UV-Spectroscopy and Quantitative estimation by High Performance Liquid Chromatographic Method for estimation of Berberine. The concentration of Berberine extract was determined using Zodiac-100 (150 mm × 4.6 mm,5μm Particle size) with Mobile phase of Trifluroacetic acid 0.5%: Acetonitrile 80:20 v/v,at flow rate 1.5ml/min and with UV detection at 336 nm gives good separation of Berberine at Rt 10.55 min. The berberine content was observed in methanol extract when compared to sample the proposed UV and HPLC method is rapid, sensitive, simple and accurate HPLC method has been developed for the Berberine.
Keywords: Berberine, UV, HPLC, Daruharidra.
