COMPARATIVE CHARACTERIZATION OF NAPROXEN LOADED CUBOSOMAL GEL FOR IMPROVED PERMEABILITY

ABSTRACT
Cubosomes are formulations, more accurately nanostructure particles of a liquid crystalline phase with cubic crystallographic symmetry formed by the self-assembly of amphiphilic or surfactants like molecule. The study was aimed to investigate the potential of cubosomes as lipid nanocarrier to improve the controlled release of Naproxen. Cubosomes were prepared by Top down approach employing GlycerylMonooleate(GMO) as lipid phase vehicle, Poloxamer407 as stabilizer and distilled water as aqueous phase. The resultant cubosomes dispersion were characterized for entrapment efficiency, particle size and zeta potential, in-vitro drug release. Best formulation (F4) showed a maximum drug release of 93.76 % with in 8 hours, particle size of 23.56 nm and zeta potential of -34.4 mV. The best formulation was chosen which is then incorporated in to the carbopol 934 gel for the proper and feasible application of the formulation to the skin. The prepared gel was then evaluated for its parameters like physical appearance, pH, drug content, spreadability, viscosity, In-vitro diffusion studies and Kinetic studies. Conventional targeted product was Compared for In-vitro drug release of formulation and at the end of 8hrs F4 showing the highest drug release(72.21%). The results obtained suggested that the cubosomal gels could be an efficient carrier for topical application.
