A CONCEPTUAL STUDY ON PRAKRITI
Dr. Mukesh Kumar Vishwakarma*
ABSTRACT
The natural condition or natural forms of an individual is defined as “Prakriti”. According to Ayurveda, each individual is assigned a specific Prakriti, which is created by the Tridosha present at the time of the sperm and ovum union inside the uterus. Prakriti is determined by the dominance of any one, two, or all three Doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Hence, the term "Prakriti" refers to an individual's genetically determined anatomical, physiological, and psychological constitution irrespective of their racial, ethnic and geographical conditions. Prakriti is one of the oldest conceptions of preventative, personalised, or genetic medicine because it also predicts how an individual will respond to the drugs, the environment, and their vulnerability to certain diseases. Prakriti is the opposite of Vikriti state, which means diseased condition of an individual. , Prakriti is crucial in determining Vikriti because abnormality cannot be detected until the normal is understood. Acharya Charaka has mentioned Dashavidha Pariksha which helps to understand the nature and severity of the disease, the body's response to the drugs (pharmacogenomics), the selection of the drugs and their doses, the prognosis of the disease, and preventive measures such as diet, diurnal and seasonal regimes. Hence, Prakriti places a strong emphasis on individuality and is crucial tool for diagnosis of disease, preventative medicine, and treatments.
