UNDERSTADING OF VISHAMAJWARA WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO MALARIA

ABSTRACT
In Charaka samhita, Acharya Charaka has mentioned Jwara as, Deha Indriya-Mana-Santapa is the cardinal
symptom of Jwara, not merely the raised body temperature. It is a state where the body, mind as well as sense
organs suffer due to temperature. Vishamajwara is characterized by irregular onset, inconsistent symptoms and
appear in irregular time and it persists for longer duration. There are different type of cause for the Vishamajwara
where Aganutja nidana plays a major role. As per Sushruta, Vishamajwara is caused by Agantuja karana or
Parahetu (external factor). This Parahetu indicates, Bhutabhisanga. The major cardinal symptoms of
Vishamajwara is Fever with chills and rigor have been observed to be present in other disease including Malaria,
which is a protozoal disease caused by plasmodia group of organism and transmitted to man primarily by certain
species of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. The Plasmodium affecting man are Plasmodium vivax,
Plasmodium falciparum, Plasmodium ovale, Plasmodium malaria. In vivax & ovale, fever occurs every 48
hour(tertian) where as in P. Falciparum and P. Malaria, it occurs in every 72hours(quartan).
