ABSTRACT

The present study was designed to extract, identify the Phyto-chemically active constituents in Beta vulgaris by using TLC method. On the basis of the results obtained, the following salient findings have emerged. Preliminary qualitative phytochemical analysis made for the root of Beta vulgaris revealed that the presence of glycosides, carbohydrates, sterols, and saponins so these species are expected to have many medicinal uses. TLC offers several benefits over the other chromatographic separation. The biggest advantage offered to the chromatography is time saving when compared to other chromatographic techniques. The non-volatile compounds can be separated by this method, where in gas chromatography and other chromatographic techniques only volatile compounds can be separated. All components of UV Light are achieved to visualize microlite `quantity of sample can also be separated in TLC. TLC proved to be successful method of identifying unknown compounds and determining the polarity of the substance. The manual error is accepted in TLC up to 1% but also this provides accurate results where as in other or HPTLC Methods the same error may give different results and also damage the equipment. The Rf value helps to identify the different phytochemical constituents present in the chloroform extraction of Beta vulgaris.
