Abstract
FORMULATION STRATEGIES FOR TASTE MASKING OF CHEWABLE SOFTGELS

Nisarga B. K.*, Panner Selvam and Satish C. S.

ABSTRACT

Chewable softgels offer a convenient and user-friendly dosage form for administering pharmaceuticals and dietary supplements. However, their taste can often pose a challenge due to the presence of bitter or unpleasant active ingredients. Taste masking is crucial to ensure patient compliance and enhance the overall acceptability of chewable softgels. The review encompasses various approaches used to overcome taste issues in chewable softgels, including the utilization of taste-masking agents, flavoring agents, and encapsulation technologies. Taste-masking agents such as sweeteners, flavors, and coating materials play a vital role in reducing the perception of bitterness or unpleasant tastes associated with active ingredients. The selection and optimization of these agents are discussed in detail, taking into account their compatibility with the softgel formulation and their impact on stability and release profiles. In conclusion, this review provides valuable insights into the formulation strategies employed for taste masking of chewable softgels. The comprehensive analysis of taste-masking agents, flavoring strategies, and encapsulation technologies offers a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities in developing palatable chewable softgel formulations. These insights can aid formulation scientists and researchers in designing effective taste-masking approaches and improving patient compliance and acceptability for chewable softgels.
