ABSTRACT
The Siddha system of medicine is an ancestral medical system that uses a holistic approach to provide preventive, therapeutic, promotive, and rehabilitative health care. Bronchial Asthma (Swasakaasam/Iraippu) is a common non-communicable disease of the lungs affecting both children and adult. Kandankathiri kashayam is a siddha classical poly herbal formulation that has been mentioned in Sarabenthirar Vaithiya Muraigal Kaasa, Swasa sikitchai for the treatment of Swasakaasam. Aim: The main aim of this study is to analyse the in-vitro Anti-histamine activity and Biochemical analysis of Kandankathiri Kashayam. Methodology: The present study was undertaken to evaluate anti-histamine activity of Kandankathiri Kashayam (KKK) by using isolated chick ileum preparation. In isolated chick ileum preparation, concentration response curve of histamine in absence and in presence of KKK was plotted. KKK showed significant decrease in contraction induced by histamine in isolated chick ileum preparation. Result: The study result was concluded that Kandankathiri Kashayam has significant Anti-histamine activity.
Keywords: Bronchial Asthma, Swasakaasam, Iraippu, Kandankathiri Kashayam, Anti-histamine activity.
