AN OVERVIEW OF TRANSDERMAL DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEM (TRANSDERMAL PATCHES)

ABSTRACT

Transdermal drug delivery system is the type of drug delivery system in which are represented to overcome the difficulties of other routes especially oral route. Transdermal patches are medicated adhesive patches that is placed over the skin to deliver a specific dose of medication through the skin and into the bloodstream. Drug delivery through the skin to achieve a systemic effect without producing any fluctuation in plasma concentration of the drug. An advantage of therapeutic agent offers many advantages over conventional oral and invensive method of drug delivery and provides controlled release of the drug delivery system [TDDS]. This review article cover brief outline, skin pathway for transdermal, merits, demerits and its limitation, evaluation of transdermal system and recent advancements.
